The Montessori method of teaching was founded by Dr. Maria Montessori. She was a pioneer in the field of early childhood education. As a doctor and a scientist, she began her work with children with a lot of observation.

She soon began to believe that young children were capable of much more than most people thought. She worked primarily with children with special needs at first, finding that they experienced a great deal of success with hands-on materials. As she later began working with typically-developed children, she had amazing results as well.

She was always an advocate for the children, believing them to be very special, capable little people. Her hands-on materials are still allowing children all over the world to comprehend subjects more complex than many children would otherwise be able to understand.

The Montessori method empowers children to develop their problem-solving and leadership skills, allowing them to go as far as they are able. They are given an opportunity to learn a great deal about themselves and the world around them.
